Moving into a smaller home can be overwhelming. However, it’s a great opportunity to organize and declutter your items so you can have a fresh start in your new home. Luckily, we have everything you need to know to make the process a breeze!
Declutter.
It may feel like spring cleaning all over again, but we urge you to go through all the hidden spaces, cracks and crevices in your home to get rid of unneeded items. For example, the garage and underneath your sink probably haven’t been touched in ages. Tackle these areas first!
Spatial awareness.
As you are packing for your move, keep in mind the amount of space you will have in your smaller home. The last thing you want is to move all of your belongings into your home and not have anywhere to put it. Being mindful of the square footage is key when downsizing!
Garage sale.
After decluttering and organizing your belongings, we recommend having a garage sale. You’ll likely have a lot of household décor, clothes, and maybe even some furniture that won’t be coming with you. It’s better to get rid of it before moving, plus you can pocket some extra cash!
Storage space.
It’s likely you won’t have nearly the amount of storage space you have currently. This means going through each of your closets; i.e. the bedroom, entry, linen, pantry and any other closet space you have! Use our Closet Purging Guide to get started in your bedroom closets!
